Alice Karugaba – Founder, Nina Interiors Ltd

Back in the 1990s, I was working in a bank and looking for a way to earn supplementary income alongside my job. I started a small retail shop just to experiment but that’s when I caught the entrepreneurship bug.

I went on to open several businesses, including Nina Interiors Ltd, which I established in 1991. Over time, I knew I needed to strengthen my business skills, so I joined one of the pioneer Entrepreneurship Training Workshop (ETW) cohorts at Enterprise Uganda. I have since attended several other trainings across different programmes.

Today, Nina Interiors has grown into one of Uganda’s most recognised premium suppliers of home and office furniture and décor. We serve clients including government institutions, banks, embassies, UN agencies, and multinational corporations. We’ve also built a partnership with Sunon, a leading Chinese furniture company, and established a state-of-the-art workshop that produces furniture to international standards.

What makes me most proud is that the business has become a family legacy—it is now being run by the third generation.

What started as a side hustle became something much bigger because I chose to invest in learning, growth, and the courage to go beyond.
