Enterprise Uganda serves as a key capacity-building partner for the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement Programme (MATIP), primarily through its Market Business Academy (MBA). While the Ministry of Local Government and the African Development Bank focus on the "hardware" (building the physical markets), Enterprise Uganda provides the "software" (business skills) needed for vendors to thrive in these new spaces.

Key Roles & Activities

Business Development Services (BDS): They provide tailored training to help market vendors transition from subsistence trading to more competitive, sustainable business models.

Market Needs Assessments: In October 2025, they launched strategic engagements at sites like the Mbarara City Main Market to conduct focus group discussions with market leaders and vendors.

Strategic Partnerships: They work alongside the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) and various Local Governments (LGs) to ensure the training programs address specific local challenges.

Skill Development: Their programs often cover essential areas such as:

Financial Literacy: Teaching personal and business-level financial management.

Customer Care & Marketing: Focusing on consumer realization and competitive strategies.

Capital Management: Helping entrepreneurs understand various sources of capital, including supplier credit and reinvestment of profits.
